仅有3种，均为海洋浮游生。中国海域发现2种。虫体较大，通常为心形、纺锤形或高锥形，体侧后方（背位）具扁带状拖曳长尾，可高度收缩成短矛状（见图）。普遍射出体发达，沿环带动基列分布。环带动基列左旋绕体多于一周。口区阔大，延伸至体中部；口原基发生于虫体腹面左侧，环带动基列下方。
